A month to go

A month from now I’ll be landing in Tokyo! 31 more days to go, it’s surreal to think about it really. I’ve known for two months that I’m going and it only gets more unreal. But now, since there’s only a month until I go, I’ve decided to write a little travel diary on my blog. I’m also hoping it gets me blogging more.
So, as some of you know, going to Japan has been a dream of mine for a long time. I’ve been planning, looking at websites like Japan Guide which is very helpful and borrowing every single travel book on Japan I can find at the library. I’ve received my flight plan and I’ll be leaving on September 27th and arriving in Tokyo a day later with a stop in Germany. I am so excited, I feel like I’m going into space hahaha.
There are some things to think about before I leave, we should be expecting a schedule any time now with the program for the trip. There will be people from 27 countries in my group and last year they went to Nara, Osaka, Kyoto and Hiroshima.
We will be staying with a Japanese family for a short time so I’m trying to decide what to bring them. I need some sweet, little, Icelandic souvenirs and something cute in case there are children in the family. I think bringing some Icelandic candy would also be a good idea. I also need to buy comfortable shoes that are easy to slip off since wearing shoes inside is not a custom in Japan.
There are so many things I want to buy there. I don’t think we have much spare time but I really really want to go to Harajuku and Shibuya. There is a shop in Harajuku called Kiddyland which I’d love to see. I’d love to get some nice traditional things too like kokeshi and daruma dolls! Oooo and a nice bento to bring to work!
But most of all, I’m thrilled to see all the sites, meet all the people and eat all the delicious sushi!
I’ll end with an interesting fact about Mt. Fuji. Did you know that on top of Mt. Fuji there is a shrine, a post office and 24 hour ramen noodle shops!
